Let's Talk About Scars, Baby!
When considering which serum to use, we all want something that is going to hydrate our skin and work as a preventative anti-aging serum. However, in our opinion, these are only two small components of what is important in a serum. Prevention is great, but what about damage that is already done? Anything from existing wrinkles all the way to acne scarring were considered when concocting our formulas, as the appearance of skin uniformity is just as important as anything else when looking at the greater picture of skincare and how we want our skin to benefit from a serum.
All three of our serums contain ingredients that stimulate collagen and elastin, both of which are necessary for cellular turnover and reversing damage. However, in this segment we wanted to highlight our Bee Serum, as it was made specifically for consumers with acne-prone skin to not only prevent breakouts with its anti-microbial properties but to also reverse the damage already done by previous breakouts.
Anyone with acne knows that one bad pimple can (literally) scar you for life. So, we took this into consideration when outlining the ingredients in our Bee Serum by adding a special biomimetic peptide known as Royal Epigen P5.
Inspired by epigenetic science, this peptide mimics royal jelly to maximize its positive effects on the skin. Honeybee workers and queens greatly differ in appearance, longevity and behavior despite the fact that they share exactly the same DNA. In 2011, Japanese scientists discovered that honeybees modify their genetic code by consuming royal jelly. Indeed, a protein of this peculiar juice was shown to be able to modify gene expression in honeybees without changing the DNA sequence, a biological process called epigenetics. This protein was named royalactin (“queenmaker”) as it determined the fate of the honeybee.
Due to the fact that royalactin is unstable and too large to penetrate the skin, a peptide was developed that copies its active sequence. For improved skin uptake, this peptide was incorporated into a soft sphere carrier system based on shea butter. In vitro studies performed on skin cells showed that the capacity of Royal Epigen P5 improved tissue regeneration by stimulating cell proliferation and migration to maintain the regenerative potential of skin cells in an aging environment. This peptide also activates protein turnover through proteasome stimulation.
Additionally, these studies showed that Royal Epigen P5 stimulated skin renewal, which led to a rapid increase in skin smoothness. Also, when applied on the face of women presenting uneven skin tones, this royalactin-like peptide improved the uniformity of their complexions within just 28 days.
So, whether you are currently fighting acne or dealing with the repercussions of old breakouts, Bee Serum is here for you. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Purified Bee Venom, one of our Bee Serum’s major work-horses, mimics the effects of Botox.
In our opinion, it’s a win-win!
